Parking in Maksimir

Maksimir is the district of the park, the stadium and the hospital: Park Maksimir and its zoo, the Maksimir stadium, KBC Rebro and Kvaternikov trg with its market are all here. Around them sit Ravnice, Bukovac, Svetice and Dotrščina, mostly low-rise housing that usually has parking of its own. The pressure comes from the overlap of quiet streets and destinations the whole city drives to.

Maksimir: neighbourhoods

Maksimir covers:

  • Ravnice
  • Bukovac
  • Svetice
  • Dotrščina

Ravnice, Bukovac and Dotrščina are houses and low blocks, mostly built with a yard or a garage of their own; the stretches around Kvaternikov trg and Svetice are older and denser, from before underground garages, so cars there end up on the street. Arrivals from outside run all week: the park and the zoo at weekends, the stadium on match and concert days, KBC Rebro every working day, the Kvaternikov trg market every morning. The official list holds 94 charged streets and the zones on them are zone 2 and zone 2.3; much of the district is not metered at all, which does not mean a space is free. That is why parking in Maksimir is often arranged privately, by the day, the month or the year, and a courtyard space or a garage has neither a zone nor a clock.

How hard is parking in Maksimir?

2 / 5Parking difficulty rating: 2 out of 5.
Moderate pressureA Parkly estimate, not a measurement
  • KBC Rebro pulls in cars from across the city every working day, and its garage is closed to the public
  • A match or a concert at the Maksimir stadium fills the residential streets of Ravnice and Svetice
  • Kvaternikov trg and its market drive the morning peak, and the buildings around the square have no garages
  • Ravnice, Bukovac and Dotrščina mostly park on their own plots, so the pressure sits at the destinations
How Parkly calculates the rating

We score three published figures and print all three below. Residential density and the number of charged streets are worth up to two points each, and a district with no public garage picks up one more, 5 at most.

  • Residential density, 3,163/km²: 1 point. Two points from 5,000/km² up, one from 2,000.
  • Charged streets on the official list, 94: 1 point. Two points from 100 streets up, one from 25.
  • 2 public Zagreb parking garages: no points.

The rating is our own assessment of the whole city district, computed from the three figures listed above. It is not a measurement of occupancy: it says nothing about how many spaces are free in your street, or at what hour.

Frequently asked questions, Maksimir

  • How much does parking in Maksimir cost?
The zones here are zone 2 and zone 2.3, and both cost €0.70 an hour. Zone 2 is capped at 3 hours; zone 2.3, the pocket around KBC Rebro, costs the same and has no time limit. Residents registered inside a zone can buy a permit, valid in their own block and one neighbouring block of the same or a cheaper zone, out of the city’s 23 blocks. A private space carries its price on the listing and no clock.
  • Is there a garage in Maksimir?
Zagreb parking runs 2 public garages in Maksimir: Kvaternikov trg and Svetice. Garaža Rebro is not one of them. It is closed to the public for the KBC reconstruction and cannot be used. Shopping-centre car parks are not on that list: they are private, the owner sets and changes the rules, and they shut when the centre shuts, so they do not cover a night. What is left are private garages and courtyard spaces let directly by their owners, on no public list, see what is currently listed here.
  • Where do I park near the Maksimir stadium?
Most streets around the stadium are inside a paid zone: an hour is €0.70, and zone 2 caps you at 3 hours, shorter than a match and far shorter than a concert. On event days Ravnice, Svetice and the stretch along Maksimirska fill with cars belonging to people who do not live there. A private space has no clock and can be taken for a single day.
  • How much can I earn renting out my parking space in Maksimir?
We do not publish an average in Maksimir: there are too few active listings for one to mean anything, and an invented number is worse than none. Set the price by comparison, look at the active listings in your own street and the nearest ones, then use the resident permit as the floor and a monthly space in a public garage as the ceiling. In the end the price is yours, and the listing carries it.
